Watauga River

The Watauga

The Watauga has similar fluctuations in flow rate to the South Holston as it is also a TVA tailwater.

The Watauga tailwater provides equal trout fishing opportunities like the South Holston yet it has similar characteristics of a freestone river. Flowing out of Wilbur Dam just outside of Elizabethton, TN this river produces some great nymph and streamer fishing for rainbows and wild brown trout. The Watauga also provides some fine dry fly fishing during heavy caddis, sulphur, and BWO hatches that take place each year.

This river is a nymph fisherman's paradise with some of the most beautiful riffles and runs that you can pick off one trout after another.
