The South Holston holds some of the finest wild brown trout in the country, with special regulations in place and great management of this Tennessee fishery the brown trout continue to thrive.
The TWRA has not stocked the SoHo with brown trout since 2005.
This river might be the best brown trout fishery I've ever fished and always produces trophy class fish annually. Most fish average 10-14 inches but fish over 20 inches are not uncommon.
This is by far the best dry fly river in the area and provides epic hatches of Sulphur mayflies, blue wing olives and midges.
This is a TVA tailwater so the flows are always subject to change, but because of the cold water that is released from the dam the trout are able to thrive year round and successfully reproduce.
When the dam is generating power the flows come up between 3,000-2,000cfs. and is great fishing from a drift boat. Whether nymphing, dry flies, or streamer fishing is your game we can do it all on this flow.
On low water the fishing is much more technical and wade fishing is usually the best approach with trout populations of over 10,000 fish per mile you don't have to cover much water to find fish. Often times when your in the right spot you can fish a 100yd. stretch all day and never move.
I have been fishing this river since I was a kid and would love to share my knowledge with you so you can see what this trophy fishery is all about!
